CLEAN WATER FOR A BHUTAN SCHOOL
During the 2024-5 Rotary year, the Rotary Club of Traralgon received a District 9815 Grant to send a SkyHydrant, which is a water filter unit that uses an ultrafiltration (UF) membrane consisting of thousands of microporous hollow fibres. Harmful bacteria, micro-organisms, dirt and other contaminating particles are removed as they are unable to pass through the micropores. The benefit of the Unit is that undrinkable river or dam water can be fed through it by gravity with and the outflow is ready for drinking. Skyhydrants are designed to produce water for 500-1000 people as stand alone units, or can be configured for larger capacity. A single unit can produce up to 1000 litres per hour and provides safe water for less than$1 per person per year.
The Unit will be sent through Disaster Aid Australia that has had a connection with schools in Bhutan for a number of years, having installed over 100 Units in that time.
The following two photos show the Unit in transit and a typical installation.
