Equine Therapy

Funds raised from a Gala Concert, and allied fundraising activities, in September 2023, allowed us to support an Equine Therapy program run by the VicPol Morwell Proactive Policing Unit. The program allowed at-risk teenagers to develop horse care and riding skills at a venue near Churchill, Victoria. Alongside developing new skills and building trust with their horse, the participants were able to chat about and talk through issues of concern with Counsellors from Headspace. Headspace also provided practical support to the program and the program’s insurance. Headspace is an Australia-wide organisation that provides early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds.

This was a wonderful opportunity for teens who, through no fault of their own have been victims of domestic crime, bullying, etc but are not yet ‘in the system’. This program and others like it, helps to steer the participants to positive activities rather than ‘falling down the rabbit hole’ of disengaging with school and adding to the youth crime statistics.

Further programs are planned as funds are raised.
