Youth Mental Health First Aid Program
The Rotary Club of Traralgon is saddened to learn that 75% of Mental health issues start between 12-25 years of age and only 25% of young people are likely to ask for help. We also know that every suicide is one too many and can usually be prevented if signs are identified early and acted upon.
We recognise these concerns and that’s why we’re delighted to partner with local sponsors and organisations, to raise funds and present the Rotary Club of Traralgon Youth Mental Health First Aid Training Program.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid Training (YMHFA) Program is world renowned, evidence based course aimed at supporting young adults. Our goal is to deliver this to people who spend time with youth in the Gippsland area and to achieve this aim, training will be directed to representatives, administrators, coaches and referees in our local sporting clubs and community groups.
The 2-day or 4-evenings training course includes education, information and resources related to anxiety, depression, psychosis, eating disorders, alcohol and drug and self harm. Read more about the YMHFA course in the flyer below:
Rotary Traralgon will work with recipients of YMHFA to encourage an ongoing program and budget within these clubs to ensure there is always a representative trained in order to keep the program sustainable. We want to ensure that mental health awareness is embedded into each club’s culture through open discussions, agenda items, education and more.
The YMHFA program is offered to Gippsland sporting leagues, individual clubs and community groups that are delivering youth and young adult programs. We aim to train between 300-350 trainees in 2020 with a vision to extend the program beyond the year. Please note that as places are limited, all applications will be considered and prioritised accordingly. See the flyer below for more details:
