UBUNTU Africa

To an audience of approximately 70 Club and Community members, Traralgon Rotary was fortunate to host UBUNTU Africa last night. We heard from Marsha and Abraham how important sponsoring a child is and, from the young people in the choir, how this incredible opportunity has created friendships across Africa – for this particular group Uganda and Kenya.  Some of the choir have graduated from University, are currently studying at University or will embark on study in September. BA degrees are diverse including Interior Design and Construction Engineering. Each of the 14 young people are spreading the word about how sponsorship will help future generations of the choir. Abraham said that they had secured 70 sponsors from the UK tour and hearing how competitive the Aussies are, especially against UK, hope to achieve at least 71 sponsors during this current tour of Australia.

The youngsters eloquently answered all the questions posed and then actively engaged in Mingo – a hilarious ice breaker which had everyone on their feet moving around and forming groups of 2 to 4 depending on what  number Barnett shouted out. This was followed by a fantastic drum demonstration by the group and 2 songs as a taster for their concert on Saturday 17th May 2.30pm in the Town Hall at GPAC.

A fabulous night was enjoyed by all who attended!

At the end of the evening President Charlie Speirs presented Marsha (KWAYA) with a donation of $1000 on behalf of the Rotary Club of Traralgon.
